Das Institute for the History of Ancient Civilizations (IHAC) an der Northeast Normal University in Changchun, Volksrepublik China, ist ein Institut zur Erforschung der westlichen Antike, ihrer Geschichte, Sprachen und Archäologie. Es wurde 1984 vom chinesischen Professor Lin Zhichun (Northeast Normal University) in Zusammenarbeit mit Zhou Gucheng (Fudan University) und Wu Yujin (Wuhan University) gegründet und war das erste chinesische Institut mit Lehrstühlen und wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeitern in den Forschungsfeldern Assyriologie, Ägyptologie, Hethitologie und klassische Altertumswissenschaften. Bis heute hat IHAC als das einzige Vollinstitut die Entwicklung dieser Forschungsdisziplinen in China maßgeblich mitbestimmt.
Die inspirierende Atmosphäre am IHAC liegt in der einzigartigen Struktur begründet, da chinesische Kolleginnen und Kollegen mit hochmotivierten Studierenden aus ganz China und ausländischen Gastprofessorinnen und -professoren zusammenarbeiten, die mindestens ein Jahr dort unterrichten und forschen. Zudem lädt das IHAC jedes Jahr mehrere Kurzzeit-Dozierende für Vorträge, Seminar und Forschungsaufenthalte ein, die die umfangreiche Institutsbibliothek nutzen können. IHAC bietet Master- und Doktorandenstudiengänge in den genannten Forschungsdisziplinen an und bildet zukünftige Lehrende wie Forschende in mindestens ein bis zwei antiken Sprachen, Geschichte und Kultur der jeweiligen Disziplin sowie modernen Fremdsprachen (neben Englisch zur Zeit in Deutsch, Italienisch und Französisch) aus.
Seit 1986 gibt IHAC die wissenschaftliche Zeitschrift Journal of Ancient Civilizations (JAC) heraus, die seit 2016 im Doppelblindgutachterverfahren publiziert wird. JAC stellt ein Forum zum interdisziplinären Austausch zwischen den Disziplinen und Forschern aus West und Ost bereit und bietet zudem Perspektiven auf die sinologische Altertumswissenschaft.

古典所简介
东北师范大学世界古典文明史研究所（IHAC）位于中国长春，是世界知名的西方古典学研究中心，研究与教学领域涵盖古代历史、语言、考古等方面。1984年，在中国教授林志纯（东北师范大学）、周谷城（复旦大学）、吴于廑（武汉大学）的热情倡导和密切合作下，古典所正式成立，在中国率先建立了亚述学、埃及学、赫梯学及西方古典学等学科。时至今日，古典所（IHAC）作为中国唯一一个独立的古典学研究所，在这些学科的研究、建设与发展方面发挥着举足轻重的作用。
古典所活跃、开放的学术氛围得益于其独特的师资构成，中国教师与外籍专家教授高效协作、辛勤耕耘，共同培育来自全国各地的、满怀着学术热情与理想的学生。这些外籍教授至少在所内从事满一年的教学研究。此外，古典所每年邀请多名外籍学者，以学术报告、研讨班、自主研究等形式进行短期访问，期间可充分利用馆藏十分丰富的古典所图书馆。古典所培养上述各个专业方向的硕士、博士研究生，修业期间，这些未来的专业教学或科研人员须至少熟练掌握一到两门古代语言，研习各自专业方向的历史与文化，并接受现代外语的学术训练（除英语外，目前还设有德语及法语课程）。
1986年，古典所主办的学术期刊《古代文明》（JAC）正式创刊。2016年，《古代文明》引入“双盲评审制”。《古代文明》杂志不仅为东西方古典学者们搭建了跨学科交流的平台，也向世界展示了中国古典学研究发展的面貌。

The Institute for the History of Ancient Civilizations (IHAC) at Northeast Normal University (NENU), Changchun (People’s Republic of China) is a research institute on ancient history, ancient languages, and archaeology. Founded in 1984 by the Chinese professor Lin Zhichun (Northeast Normal University) in cooperation with Zhou Gucheng (Fudan University) and Wu Yujin (Wuhan University), IHAC was the first Chinese institute to establish chairs and academic research positions for Assyriology, Egyptology, Hittitology and (Western) Classics, and has contributed substantially to the development of these fields in China since then.
The inspiring academic atmosphere is due to the unique combination of mainly Chinese faculty staff, highly motivated students and annually renewable research and teaching positions for foreign visiting professors. Besides long-term visiting professors, IHAC regularly invites scholars around the world to give lectures, contribute to workshop as well as conferences, and do research in the up-to-date library. IHAC offers two degree programs for both domestic and overseas students (MA and PhD) during which our students acquire an effective understanding of one or two ancient languages, the history and culture of the specific field and develop their knowledge of scholarly English and other modern languages (e.g. German, French or Italian).
Since 1986, the IHAC publishes the Journal of Ancient Civilizations (JAC) which became a double blind peer-reviewed journal in 2016. JAC provides a forum for the discussion of various aspects of the cultural and historical processes in the Ancient Near Eastern and Mediterranean world, encompassing studies of individual civilizations as well as common elements, contacts and interactions among them (e.g. in such traditional fields as Assyriology, Classics, Egyptology, Hittitology, and Sinology, among others).
