Damit führt die Klassische Archäologie zu den Grundlagen unserer europäischen Zivilisation – ihren historischen Veränderungen, materiellen Bedingungen und geistigen Fundamenten.

The focus of research and teaching at our institute lies on professional techniques and skills with which archaeologists analyse, describe and interpret the multi-faceted world of ancient images, objects and buildings. In-depth occupation with objects and texts, at the institute and on site, allow for a profound understanding of ancient Mediterranean cultures. In this way, classical archaeology leads to the very roots of our European civilisation – its historical changes, material conditions and intellectual foundations.
